I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to give BMW pig snouts.
This look wont grow on me. I give them one model year before a redesign.

Tall and large grilles can be done correctly, I blame the hood making the whole design too busy.

You know, from a design perspect ive it’s actually quite... uh... yeah, this is terrible, and BMW should be ashamed of what they’ve become.

Nope... Why couldn’t they leave the M3 alone?! (actually, that looks like an EV)
There’s going to be big business retrofitting M340i front clips onto these.

That’s the M4 concept, but I don’t think that’s the M3 - is that an EV (blue Bimmerang, solid grille, aero wheels) ?

My dad and I were loyal BMW drivers for years, but neither of us would dare to be seen in these atrocities.
My sister, on the other hand...

I suppose it’s less painted area you have to worry about chipping or waxing.

What was the last (newest) one each of you owned?

The last one, for both of us, was an E34 525i 5MT. We both looked at E39s as replacements, and both came to the conclusion that, although it was a nice car, it was essentially the same as the E34 from a space, features and performance standpoint.
We both ended up with W210s, and although we both regretted the decision, he kept his longer than I kept mine. Mom still has her 2002 S210 , however, one of the last ones made .
Yeah, it’s not like we had the latest BMWs, but with the move towards SUVs and seemingly away from fun, but reasonably priced sports sedans, the brand became something neither of us wanted to be associated with . I only had two, including an E21, but he had three over the years (E21 , E28 and E34). Sure, the M models are great, but those were a bit out of what we could justify on sedans. I went with the 968 for awhile for a fun vehicle whilst he kept his W210, but now we’re both happy with our current choices - him a Chevy Volt (he’s got solar panels, so why not) and me with my Mazda5 6MT. At this point I would chalk it up to age and fiscal responsibility - he retired from the consulting firm he founded and I’m no longer a 6-figure network engineer.

It really is a shame that they just don’t offer a car anything like you had anymore. I have an E90 M3 6MT, and it’s great, but there’s really nothing from BMW, apart from maybe the M2, that has my interest. I love my Mazda 3s 5MT hatch, and will surely own a Mazda again one day.

When I look at the kind of buyers these days I find that I no longer fit in with that crowd, just like I no longer shop at Nordstrom like I used to - that was the only place I bought clothes for decades. My nephew’s first (!) car was an X2, and he wrecked it on the way home from the dealership. I was the proud driver of mom’s hand-me-down VW station wagon and I was pleased as punch to have a set of wheels to call my own.
This Mazda is the first Japanese car that I own, and whilst it’s no BMW, it’s also not priced like a BMW (or as unreliable as one) . I’d say that it’s 90% of the fun at 50% of the price. And this whole ‘reliability’ thing? It’s a new concept to me, and to be honest, I kind of like it.

Haha - my first car was an ‘86 Camry (manual!) that I bought with my own money. It was freedom. I’ve never fit in with that crowd - I’m a BMW owner as an enthusiast only, and bought my ‘08 in 2012. I was 34 at the time, and m y car previous to it was the Mazda. Was still a major decision to spend so much ($40k) on a car. I’m willing to put up with the stigma for a car that’s RWD, manual, has an NA V8 that revs to 8600, has good-old hydraulic steering feel, and has 4 doors and 5 seatbelts and a usable trunk (I have 3 kids), all wrapped up in a stunning design (to my eye) . No other car can give me what this car does.
I absolutely flogged my Mazda around for the 7 years I had it, and it gave me no trouble. There is real joy in Slow Car Fast!
